96 Mustang Gt
Gonna be a daily for alittle while. Plan to fix the interior, and repaint the car eventually. Here is how she sits now
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...ps83b3a669.jpg |
Oh hell. I will be the one that says it. Another 6 year project in the works :)
Looks good though. Need more boost! |
LoL no boost (planned) for now. May just do a pi swap and race joseph :jester:
You don't want any of this. '98s were rated at TEN more rwhp than '96s. :burnout: And mine has FLOWMASTERS - we all know that's good for 50 rwhp.
Mine has a k&n on the maf....yeah
Joseph has to race with two spares on the back
Mine is setup for roll racing now, hence the big tires in the front

nice find Michael
Cool project car....I gotta see this race though!! :D
Can't stand the wheels on it so I borrowed these until I can decide on what I want. Also picked up a cobra gauge cluster. Have the parts to do an egr delete and cop conversion as well.
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...psa3a4ac94.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...psd70395a7.jpg |
:nice:
I made my own EGR delete. Cut a blockoff plate for the intake on the plasma at work and welded up the nut off the EGR tube to make a cap for the exhaust. Redneck, but it works. Where'd you get the Cobra instrument cluster? |
Same here, joys of having a machine shop at work. I think my company should sponsor me as many parts I done for the cobra lol.
Bought it off craigslist from a guy in pinson |
Say, what all is required to do a COP conversion? And what is the advantage other than getting rid of the sometimes troublesome coil packs?
Just the cops and wiring. It's basically just to clean everything up. The cops have just as many problems really
Making some progress. Hope to finish the wiring up this week
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...psbe21a34f.jpg |
Nice. I need to get back to work on mine now that I'm back from vacation.
What all you have left?
Drill out the tie rod bolt holes in the spindles, bolt 'em up, put the brakes on (Bullitt front brakes with SS hoses), adjust the ride height, eyeball the alignment, and get it to the alignment shop.
Also have the aforementioned CAI, plenum, TB, and MAF and a strut tower brace that need to go on. Oh, and a set of 4.10s. PI swap will have to wait a while. Too broke to buy the rest of the parts and the tuning stuff I need. Need to sell some of the extra parts I have lying around. I'd like to have it done before the kiddo is born in February, but we'll see. |
Got a lot of work ahead of you. I gotta round me up a set of gears as well
Got mine cheap on Craigslist. A guy bought an Explorer 8.8 w/ 4.10s to put in his lifted Ranger, but he wanted 4.88s or something. I think I paid $50-75 for them.
Cop conversion was a success. Gotta finish up cleaning the wiring up. Also found an 03 radiator in the shop, so it'll be going in as well
Installed the s281 wing/deck lid today. Luckily it was white so I can wait and paint it with the car

Looks Sweet :nice:
Picked up some longtubes today. Gonna let them lay in the floor for a few months lol

Did some led lighting in the cluster and dash
Before http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...pse36026e7.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...ps3c9a0629.jpg After http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...pseb644978.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...ps147ffe89.jpg |
:chug: cool. I did my 93 Lightning like that
Looks good! Big difference! :chug:

Yeahs just a led 194 replacement peanut bulb. I got them at superbrightleds.com
awesome@! Thanks!
How many LEDs do you have to swap? I know to do that on the 4Runner it's something like 50-60 LEDs. :notnice:
5 in the cluster and 2 in the hvac control. Cluster has some smaller bulbs for the engine lights and turn signals but I didn't change them
New to me shortblock and headers
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...ps0476bb7e.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...ps99f5ede5.jpg |
And it begins....hope you have room in the garage and 4 more jackstands!!!

Lol the silver one is almost off, I'll swap em out
So is the '96 going to have a stock PI setup, forged internals, and long tubes? I'm still undecided what I want to do with mine once I have a place to work on it again.
It's a stock Mach shortblock. Just bumps the compression more. Will have mhs stage 2 heads, cms stage 2 cams, gt valve train and a victor jr setup.
Got the wheels on http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...psf771b68b.jpg
Looks good.. I would recommend an LS swap
With a pro charger?
Na... Procharger/lsx swap in the silver cobra
More progress and parts. Installed rsd, 98 console, aluminum driveshaft. Also lower intake, seats, brakes, steering, and new heads cam in. Also pulled a 4r70 at pull a part today.

uh oh. racecar.
Wait, I thought this was your DD? That's a manual steering rack, isn't it? O_o That's more hardcore than I'd want in a street car...and this is coming from a guy with stiffer than prom night race car suspension. :D
Yeap manual rack. I bought a cougar for $300 so it's racecar time lol
Manual racks aren't that bad on the street. It sucks to turn while standing still, but even going a couple mph, it's pretty easy to turn.
It's nothing like a power rack after removing the belt. That's a bitch because in addition to turning the wheels, you're also having to force fluid though the lines. Also, the ratio is a bit lower for the manual rack too. |
My grandfather had a mid 80's Escort Pony with manual steering, and that's the car I learned to drive a manual in. It was a bitch at low speed (which was the only speed it would go  ), but being FWD may have made it worse.
Started getting some prep work done to get the motor ready to pull. That way I will have two mustangs that don't run :jester:
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...pscdb237a8.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...psdd2c1333.jpg |
Project change #3 or 4..5 hell I don't know but I'm gonna finish this one lol. Coyote swap
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...ps19kygabj.jpg |
COOL, is there a lot of rewiring involved or does someone make a PnP harness?
oh and :eric: |
Ford racing has a control pack that makes it super easy. Amazing the power these make with the vct control
What are the other three cams for?
:D |
Spares for race wars coming up lol
Heads and torque boxes are in the pile
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...ps0pmzqiz5.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...ps9vwet8ji.jpg |

Sweet any power adders?
Have a plate kit for it
Got the front bumper support done tonight. Stock parts weighed 19.8lbs, this was 6.4lbs. Hope to do the rear later this week. Should save more weight on the rear.

Removed the padding under the carpet. Surprised how much weight it was, alittle over 10lbs. Also seeing if i wanna go through the trouble of a pin on hood
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...psqqxuy94x.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...psnjbmzodu.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...psnzhtoo1g.jpg |
I like my pin on. The brackets loss some weight.

Picked up the hood today. Gel coat looks better than the car paint lol

racecar life
I think you should keep the different colored trunk lid and maybe find another rough looking body part to put on the car and a quiet exhaust system. turn it into a hustle car like whats his name from georgia with the coupe they called 'the gnat'. LOOL |
I thought about but I just can't bring myself to it. It'll make some money still lol
Farm truck it lol
Can't hide carbon fiber lol
Big money Turner..
