UPDATE on bad running 96
This is the first installment - http://www.streetstangs.net/showthread.php?t=10885
changed the plugs today to find that one is fouled to hell and 2 look brand new  tested and found that all plugs are bringing spark, not sure how he tested this found that oil smells like gas :devileek: mechanic thinks that because some cylinders are not firing it is allowing gas to get past the rings and to mix with the oil My first thought was coil pack but my Dad thinks that mechanic said all plugs are getting spark |
maybe it is running real rich
|
I do not know, we are swapping the oil today
his thought is that the oil is too saturated with gas and is therefor losing compression |
changed the oil, no change
disconnected the air sensor, no change |
did you ever pull the codes to see what the CEL was?

Maybe the injectors are leaking down? I had that problem before but it was with bigger injectors
|
have you run a compression check yet? if so, what were the results?
|
compression test is today or tomorrow
the car cranks and runs (with a slight miss and occasional backfire) but when it idles down it dies he said it is hard to pull codes b/c of the dieing but it does say something about a valve in the intake not working or something I remember a 96-98 Cobra guy mentioning some sort of valve or something going bad and replacing or deleting the part - anyone know what it is or if it could be causing my problem? the car never smokes so I do not think it is a ring |
IMRC is what I think it is called
