If i go with a off road x pipe will my check engine light come on? I want to do away with the cats. thx

Yes it will, but i think it can be turned off if you have a programmer.

steeda sells MIL eliminators for this very purpose. last I checked they were about $60 a pair

A computer flash from Bamachips (link) solves the issue without doing any wiring. A good side effect is that any other changes you make like gears, can be controlled via the ECU instead of more wiring hacks.

If he does gears in an 01+ he'll have to have a tuner period. Speedcal wont work for those model years or higher. 99+ autos cant use speedcal either. Its in your best interest to get a tuner, especially for the power gains and driveability. Of course this is all just my opinion.

IMO let the check engine light stay on for a little while and save up a little more money for a custom tune (rather than bother with MIL elims right now). It's definitely money well spent. :yup:

Our 01 works well with the speed cal

the only problem with the check engine light being on is that it doesnt advance the timing like it normally would. thus doing this will actually have a power loss till it gets taken off. damn obdII!!!!
