2001 GT Mod Question

A son of a really good friend of mine is getting ready to buy a 2001 GT next week (back up north).
The car is 50k miles, automatic.

They were questioning me for a mod list.
The dad will help a little with mod money, however the son will be doing most of it, so it will be done in stages.

Here is what I was thinking about:
1) 4.10 gears
2) Cat back
3) cold air intake and a plenum
4) Pullies
5) complete the exhuast (still have to have converters for Chicago area testing) but I was thinking headers and high flows.
6) custom tune

This car will need to last the boy atleast 5+ years, and will be his only car, so no power adders will happen, and no internal mods.

Figure this would be over about a 1-2 year process.

What do you mod guys think???

Don't forget subframe connectors, springs, and shocks and struts...but other than that it sounds right to me. :nice:

With the lowering springs, make sure he adds a good set of CC plates and has it aligned.

wouldn't it need a tune right away to correct for the 4.10 gears

I would do SFC's instead of pullies

I am not sure, if this is true, then the tune would have to be done sooner rather than later.

Can anyone confirm?

The other thing that will happen that I forgot to list will be Cobra front brakes, this would probably be number 1 on the to due list.

if its a auto then yes it will need a tune with the gear change. I am pretty sure that speed cals only work with 5-speed cars

Thanks, I do a little more checking in it.
If he will need to do the tune after the gears would ya'll suggest doing the exhaust/intake stuff first then?

I am sure that they would like to only do the tune one time.

Save the best for last. Gear after the front gets the bolt on's. Hope your gear goes on better than my last one. Took 2 days to get it out of there.

Personally, the tune would be one of the first things I did. Better gas mileage, throttle response, torque, hp,etc. Try to do it with the gear install and it will work well.
