ecm

i am putting a 5.0 ho into a 88 cougar, the non ho computer wont work. can anybody tell me what computer i need? it is a 5.0 aod . some tell me it has to be for the aod trans but that year trans dont go thru the computer so i cant see what diff. it makes any help would be appreciated. thanks

The AOD transmissions are not controlled by the computer in those year models. Ford used a TV cable....
Any GUFB type EEC-IV or equivalent ECM should work. You just have to be careful and not burn the traces up in the ECM.

You will need to look at the wiring diagrams for both setups to confirm things like electric fan control etc. etc. This will help in determining which EEC-IV ECM is best for your application. Some EEC-IV's do not have the hardware installed to be able to run electric fans etc.

i have a d9s from a 89 lincoln mark 7 it was a 5.0 ho with aod if u need it i take $40 bucks for it!

thanks for the info. i talked to someone that did the same engine swap, he said the wiring harness on the cougar is the same as the mustang. he said he used the computer out of the 88 mustang. but he dont know the part number of the computer. i have some computers a guy gave me but i dont know the number of the mustang computer. does anyone know the number on the 88 computer? thanks
