Question on 4.6 police cars
http://springfieldil.craigslist.org/car/440778710.html
I am kind of interested in this car, it is close by and I may go look at it this weekend or next week. Can anyone vouch for the longevity of something like this?

Yeah, it's got a cop motor, cop shocks, cop tires and it was built before catalytic converters, so it'll run good on regular gas.
If it was actually in service, it's already had the living shit beat out of it. Just get a regular Crown Vic if you're after one. As I recall, the FPSAP, LX sport model, touring and all those are actually faster than a P71. Another benefit to the regular crown vic is you won't look like a complete jack-ass because it won't have antennas and search lights. FWIW, I am pretty sure the PCM is a little different on th P71s. I don't think it's anything you'd want though. I think the idle speed was raised a little bit, speed controller set a little higher and some other minor stuff.

If it was a police vehicle in service then I wouldn't have it. It will be used and abused and will end up having tons of problems. Police vehicles are generally low bid cars with the cheapest parts and maintenance possible. The crown vics are great vehicles for police. i have had several on patrol over the last ten years. I now have an 07, just got it. It had 13 miles on it when it was issued to me. I love them, but would not own a high mileage used police car.

I agree with Gonzo.
Plus, something isn't quite right with that one. Either they've changed the trunk lid or the grille. The chrome grille like that came on what we called...."the taxi cab editions" and they weren't "Interceptor" cars and didn't have the Interceptor badge on the trunk. They also had chrome trim around the bumpers and the bottom of the trunk lid and taillights. But this one has the newer trunk lid and Interceptor badge. Hmmmmmm..... I'd stay away from it.
