When the 4.30s were in my car, I turned it 6200rpm in every gear, and it ran through the lights at roughly 6000rpm in 4th gear...it ran 114mph, with a 26x10.5/17 et street...
what about cruising what kind of rpms did you turn at like 70 and 80?

I base everything off a complex chart I have come up with, I will share it with you

Underpowered cars need more gear(at least 3.73), Heavy underpowered cars need even more gear(at least 4.10), Heavy underpowered AOD cars need way more gear(at least 4.30s). Gears are the single best improvement you can make!

For pushrod powered SN cars please substitute the phrase "gutless pigs" for the word cars and choose the next lowest gear ratio available as opposed to the ones listed for said application.

Re: 4:10's or 4:30's

I ran 4.10's in the '85 for years, I can't remember freeway cruising RPM's but I ran the car at 70MPH from Chicago to Daytona and got around 22 MPG (Carb car).
I ran a 26" tall tire in the 1/4 and would be just under 6000 at the line, it was great for that.

the car wont see the interstate much but probably will once and a while.
also what size tire do you suggest?

mods
-Trickflow engine kit
-24# injectors
-BBK CIA w/ throttle body/MAF
-BBK shorty headers
-BBK O/R X-pipe
-Flowmaster cat-back
-Tremec TKO 500
-SPEC stage 2 clutch
-Dyno tune

4.30's and 26 inch MT ET Drags. Drive it like you hate it.

I am running 4.88's and 28 inch MT ET Drags and love it. Don't fear the gear, you will just be putting them in later. Might as well do it right now and be done with it. 4.30's are easy for a TKO setup like yours.
