Oil / Special fluid != water.

Bottom line, I'm just stating they don't specify a special liquid so it can be water; or anti-freeze-water mix.

This is what I've heard more often than air-to-water.
Where are you coming up with a comparisson between oil and water? No one here has said anything about putting oil in an intercooler. It's been a while since Fluid Mechanics, but I'm pretty sure that would be a really bad idea.

You could run only water in an air-to-water intercooler if you weren't worried about it freezing.

I'm not comparing oil to water. What I'm trying to explain is that just because it says 'air-to-water' it does not inherently mean you can put anything you want in there. Granted, I have no problems putting anti-freeze in an IC such as Dale's, 'air-to-water' is not a blanket term for all liquids and shouldn't be used as such. If brand X ICs require a certain oil or lubricant or whatever and you dump plain water (or vice versa) you could run into problems.

I may not be disagreeing with Brian as much as disagreeing with the terminology; hence my oil != water comment.

It would break as soon as a rock or other object hit it going down the road (most likely below the ductile/brittle transition temp!), plus there would be no way to keep the nitrogen liquid without a refrigerator.

intercooler

Ok, thanks for the help. As I said earlier there will be more questions to come later, all I know about is pushrod motors and jet engines. The car has alot of mods and I gotta call the previous owner to find out what else he did.
