Re: Tire sizes on a SN95
712s suck. They get slippery when they're heated, traction is horrible, and the tirewear blows.
They might be okay if you never really push the car. Stay away from Kumho unless you're going MX.

Re: Tire sizes on a SN95
Nitto 555's are the best for the money IMO, plus they last a long time.

On average I am driving around 20k per year, so I want something that will last at least 1 1/2 year.

Re: Tire sizes on a SN95
craig, i've been riding on Sumitomo hrz.. no complaints, nice tread design, good price at 70 bucks a wheel msrp, wet weather.. good stuff. i've yet to break them loose on wet roads..
paul gets em at a discount and i needed a good all weather tire when i got my new rims. even two size differences.. it was only 100 bucks a tire.. i will admit tho, i had no complaints from my Nitto's 555R dr's. they stuck like glue up in NC on the dragon run in october, but i really had to heat the piss out of them to get em to stick up @ Steele.. but thats either (A) my fault or (B) the fact steele's track sucks..

Re: Tire sizes on a SN95
Jase,
I saw the Sumitomo tires and wondered how they were, can't hardly beat the price. So you paid $70, or $100?

If you're going to drive everyday and traction isn't an issue, get a higher treadwear rating tire. If you push your car at all, the 712s won't work. They're cheap for a reason.

did fine in my opinion. VHt is used to pave 129 it seems but we ran into a t storm comin into knoxville on the way home. Nitto's DR's are useless in any adverse weather.. drop the temp 30 -40 degrees and its like drivin on ice skates.. they wear faster too.

Re: Tire sizes on a SN95
Well,
I think I am going to keep my GoodYear GS-D2 (3 of them) and GS-D3 (1) and use these once the current tires are done (probably in another few months). Looking at current used tire prices I would be lucky to get $300 or so out of them. the GS-D3 is brand new and one of the D2 has under 1000 miles on it. These tires are less than optimal size (245/40/ZR17) for the car (look to small and too short) but for just driving the car back and forth to work it almost seems foolish to get ride of these tire for that cheap (new they are almost $200 each), then still have to spend another $200 or so for a set of new tires. Oh well. Thanks for all the input on the subject, once the GoodYears are used up I will defiantly be buying some bigger meats!
