Depends on what you want, I personally would want an overdrive so I could go down the interstate without reving too high. I guess if you were running a turbo with a 3.27 gear it wouldn't be too bad but I'd still rather have an OD.

4R70W with a Baumann TCS, The 4R70W in my opinion the strongest Automatic overdrive. Jerry W. helped design this transmission when he was still at Ford, Using readily available production Ford components it can be built to handle well over 1000hp. Buy the Baumann TCS and wiring harness, You can controll shift points and shift quality. I think that type of versatility and control over the operation of the transmission is more than worth the nominal cost especially on a street car.

Re: anyone ever run a C4 auto?
I run a full-built C4 right now in my fox...with 3.55's. RPM's are tolerable if you can put a 28" tire on...but if not, you'd want 3.08 or max 3.27's
As far as driving fun...there's something about a built auto that is un-comparable to the manuals. Click it back and BOOM, it's already in gear..fast and hard. It will make car side-step on the 2-3 and that's with a weak-300hp motor. Fun cannot describe it.
