Box Intake?

Whats the benefit of running a box upper intake on a charged motor? Such as the Comp, Cartech, Down's, Holcomb "Civil Wars" boxes??

I have a ported Cobra right now.. Can I get better low end torque from the box upper & proted cobra lower?

I was even thinking about the complete TFS Box-R intake.. ???

Thanks
Carl

Re: Box Intake?

you will LOSE low end with a box intake.

Also, if your needs require one, do not get the COMP box as they are not worth the material they are made out of

Re: Box Intake?

You gain a less restrictive intake when you go to a bread box intake.

. . . it also makes it easier to get to the driver's side valve cover.

That's a nice intake, but you may need a cowl hood for that one. Check with slvrbullit; I believe he test fitted one on his car a little while back.

Edit: I just saw Tommy's post in this thread refering to the fitment of the TFS intake.

It's not that I require one.. I would like to run the taller breather style valve covers but they won't clear the upper. I can't fit an intake spacer without changing the hood. (Can't change the hood due to the hand mixed paint color ) Sooo I think my only option is a box intake. Your right about the Comp.. I put one on a '92 GT droptop I had a few years back.. It was a VERY cheap intake. What do you think about the Trick Flow Box-R? My cam doesn't help down low either.. (Trick Flow Stage 1) As it is now.. The car doesn't come alive until about 3000rpm. I was going to install a 3.55 but what if I use a 3.73 gear to compensate the loss of my low end?

Thanks for the link.. Whats the clearance difference (if any) between the Fox & SN95's? He tried it on a '95 right?

You'll have the same problem with the box intake. The throttle cable bracket will hit your valve covers without an intake spacer.

Re: Box Intake?

Alot of people run the box intake to loose down low torque so the car will hook better on radials.

Re: Box Intake?

My Trick Flow Stage 1 cam has all the power you'd need from 2k on. Why does yours wait until 3k? Italian drove my car and said it felt like it had 4.10's or something. Do you have 19# injectors? If so, switch to 24's...I noticed a HUGE gain in bottom end with that swap. I too have the TFS1 cam and a cobra intake.

As for box, you shouldn't need it if your Cobra is ported at all...mine's port-matched.
I've seen as much as 840 rwhp through a ported Cobra (cut open and welded) with a Novi blower several years ago.

The intake I tried came off my friends turbo'd 92 Coupe. He has a 2.5" Cowl hood and has issues with it hitting his also.
