B-cam & P-heads PTV

Hello everybody!!! Still new to the forum and haven't made it through all of the archives. I need help! I have a 306 (stock) and I'm going to do a head & cam swap soon. I got a set of gt40 -p heads (NEW) and a B-303 cam. I bought a set of mac p-specific headers, so I'm almost set (minus gaskets & crap)... Got everything for a song. Does anybody know if this combo will work with 1.7 rockers? I'm concerned about the piston to valve clearance. Pistons are stock.

Current mods: Pro-products intake, 70mm tb, 76 C&L, A9L, underdrive pulleys, Crane 1.7 roller rockers, Mac headers, 2 1/2" polished off road pipes w/ spin-tech (loud as hell) mufflers dumped, polished Ron Davis radiator, FRPP alum. driveshaft, 3.73 rear, Maximum Motorsports lowers, panhard bar, c&c plates, and FRPP C-springs (Yeah, I like to turn)

if it is a 306 it isnt stock. stock is 4 inch bore to get a 306 it is .030 over. but you prob wont be able to run the 1.7s. i would keep 1.6s and go for a comp cams dual pattern similar to the f cam but a little more lift and 2' more duration on the exhaust with a 112 lsa.

Thank you so much for the info!!! Sorry for saying my 306 is stock. I know a 302 .030 over is a 306, but I thought the piston notching would be close to stock because it was a reman. motor. Anyway, I got the B-cam for $80 from one of the mechanics at GTR. I'm on a budget. I don't want to use my old stamped steel rockers, so maybe I could trade my 1.7's for a set of 1.6 rollers. Again, thank you!!!

Thanks 89 Hoss! Little by little I have been pulling parts off and polishing them myself. When you're on a budget and have a bit of time, it's a great way to add some shine! I'm currently working on the alt. bracket and belt tensioner. I have a set of 24#'s that I polished for my head/cam swap. I'm getting there.

Depends on what pistons are in the motor. If they are replacement pistons with valve reliefs they will easily work. If they are flat tops with no reliefs, there will be a clearance problem.

'b' cam with 1.7's is a nice combo on a mild motor. I ran that for several years in my 93 cobra

My original motor saw an unfortunate death. This is a reman. that I got when I was short on time. I haven't pulled the heads off yet, but from digging around through the spark plug hole I can feel notching. The orig. '86 had flat tops. I will assemble with the 1.6's and check for clearance before anything....gotta be safe, ya know!! Thank you so much for the input!!!!!!!!!

+1,I'm running a 306 with true (non dished) flat tops with valve reliefs,and an E cam,which has .498 lift.I'm about to put my 1.7's on it which will bring my lift up to .528 with no clearance issues,so you should be good to go, considering with 1.7's on a B cam will take your lift from .480 to around the .500 (ballpark figure,I'm tired!).But if you want to know for certain,clay it!

Thanks so much for the input. I had planned on using clay to check before firing it up, but I wanted to know if I might have to get the 1.6's. Whenever I do a project, I like to have all my eggs in a row...('course it doesn't always happen that way!)
