I like the combination. Only changes I would make are a Downs Box intake for that Cobra lower (easy swap) and a 3.73 or 4.10 gear. I bet those two changes alone would give you at least a half-second since that X-303 will really like to rev. Then...at a later date, swap in a 331 or 347 stroker and you'll already have enough induction for it.

Have you ever run that style intake on n/a 302-306 motor?
Somebody I knew run one of those Comp box uppers a few years ago and it absolutly killed the bottom end on the motor.
Not to mention they leak like hell too

Yes I have. I ran a comp-polymers box intake on my '87 coupe for sevareal years...only other mod was the 1970 windsor heads. Ran great...no low-end difference, in fact, the whole motor felt better. Ran 8.98 @ 80mph on stock tires and a stock 3.08 gear in the back! That's not bad for what it was. That very intake is on my brothers 308 with ported E7's now.

The Downs box is a cast aluminum piece that is not as prone to leakage as the COMP box, which is two or three pieces. Mine never leaked though.

I had the downs box back when it came out and loved it.You couldnt get a streetrace with it though because everyone who saw it was like "WTF that aint no regular intake"

Thanks for all the replies . Once the coupe sells,I will be doing the gears and hopefully I will get motivated to paint it. Previous owner let it get in bad shape. The only intake swaps I'm willing to do on this car need to stay under no more than a 2" cowl and preferably the stock hood.

I need to get a tune done so I can get past the factory rev limiter.

coupe- I would love to build a 347 for it.

Italian LX- I do think the spacer is leaking and I'm going to take it off tonight since ups came yesterday with the new vc's

most aftermarket intakes will clear the stock hood unless you are running a spacer.

But the 2" cowl looks good on a cobra

Why bypass the factory limiter when your combo will never make power higher than that anyways?
