Pro 5.0 Shifter

Had the Pro 5.0 shifter installed today. After having a regular shifter for so long, I wasn't expecting such a difference. It is not as short as the Toyota MR2 shifter but it doesn't like much being as short. Besides the short throw now, I do hear a lot more tranny noise.

Yea, when I put in the Steeda Tri-Ax, I heard alot more tranny noise as well.

Re: Pro 5.0 Shifter

Aftermarket shifters are great, but honestly I think the Tri-Ax is a lot nicer than the Pro 5.0. I haven't driven anything with an MGW, but I hear they're the thing to have these days.

Re: Pro 5.0 Shifter

We tried the BNK shifter first but I was sold the wrong one and it did not fit. After being given a bunch of grief I decided to go with the Pro 5.0. I am having to teach myself how to shift again. The throw is about a 1/3 as long. Being vertically challenged too, I had to readjust my driving position to be able to reach the shifter.

Re: Pro 5.0 Shifter

The Pro 5.0 and Triax are both nice shifters.
The MGW, however, is completely different, in every way. Totally new design, amazing engineering, and works like a charm.
As far as tranny noise, seems thats one of the not so great things about installing an aftermarket shifter. I'm about to try a new shifter gasket made from some kind of silicone material. Its supposed to seal great and really cut down on the noise. Hope the hype is true. We'll see..........

Re: Pro 5.0 Shifter

I have run the B&M Ripper, Pro 5.0, and Steeda tri-ax.

I noticed NO added noise with the B&M and Pro 5.0. The tri-ax on the other hand is loud as crap but I think it has to do with the "pot metal" that the handle is made of.

With that being said, I love the tri-ax! For me it is the best out of the above 3 BUT I have heard so many positive reviews about the MGW, that I am going to try it first in the SVO

The Cobrabob shifter gasket in my Cobra is just as loud as my '98 GT without a gasket. It might be the difference in transmissions, but so far I don't think the gasket is worth the money. Of course, my exhaust is loud enough cover that noise up, not to mention that Metallica or Black Label Society is usually overpowering the exhaust and the transmission.

The tranny noise comes from removing all the rubber crap. That's why the stock shifter feels so sloppy - it's got a lot of soft material in it to dampen vibrations and cut down on noise.
