Looking into getting a main girdle while I have the motor out. Any suggestion on what kind or what name.

Re: Girdle

I don't see the need for one. I htink you'd be better off with a windage tray and crank scraper myself. That with a good pan and you're on your way. A girdle won't help the block live any longer, so spend the money where it will help.

Re: Girdle

I agree with Lincoln, a girdle doesnt do anything for a block, its still a 2-bolt main block. Waste of money in my book.

Re: Girdle

I have the DSS girdle and matching windage tray on the sportsman block, had to clearnce for the stroker, took awhile but i do feel its worth the effort. Not only does it add rigidity to the block but it also helps absorbe harmonics.

Re: Girdle

Well, I think, for what they cost, it's well worth it. Sure, in the grand scheme of things, they won't keep a block from cracking. But it will definately help with cap walk and may help protect against spun bearings better.

Personally, I would suggest this girdle that I used for my 331. It actually doesn't just tie the caps to each other, it ties them to the block itself. Although, everytime I've suggested it, they seem to never have any in stock when people want them. It's a PRC girdle. And I've heard, they've gone up on price.

Yep, they've definately gone up on price. I definately didn't pay $400 duckies for mine. Although, that's suggested retail. I think you have to go through one of their dealers and it may be a good bit cheaper. http://www.prcinc.com/development.htm

Re: Girdle

I was thinking like lincoln said but I thought that a girdle would help spread the stress across all the mains. I already have a windage tray and ARP studs on it just thought so day soon I'd be getting near the 500hp range and needed to beef the bottom end up a bit since the motor is now out. Thanks for the imput. Flashbang that looks like a kick @@s set.
