Alternator rebuild

Okay, as some of you might know, I have what some consider as a polishing fetish. My alternator is one of the last couple parts on my motor that I haven't done yet. What I have is a 130 amp 1-wire alternator. It's in a stock 86-93 style housing. Is this something that I can easily take apart to polish? Or should I take it to a shop, have it disassembled, do my thing and have them put it back together? I just don't want to screw myself. Thanks!!!
