Trans Brake and O/D solenoid questions

First off I was wondering how much movement these solenoids are supposed to have to engage their respective "parts"....I've tried to take the solenoid and 12V+ to the wire and then 12V- to the "case" of the solenoid and no real audible CLICK to speak of....

I did a google search for the solenoid and the one for the TRANS BRAKE is 4348719 which corresponds to this, Transmission Lockup Solenoid Connector is what they call it...--->http://www.mopartsracing.com/parts/auto.html

After removing this trans for the gazzillionth time, new converter, new pan, new mech. diode, basically totally rebuilt there is no reverse....

My solenoid is wired with a wire coming off of the reverse lights to "signal" that it is in reverse (with the other side of the trans brake switch wired to 12V+ (ignition source, I believe)

This worked before so I'm wondering if these solenoids just from sheer sitting around for so long w/o being run just "locked up"...

Thanks in advance.

Brad
