I agree with the stock one's being just fine as a replacement. However, I'm not certain that that is your problem. I'd be leaning more towards a faulty chain tensioner... but no real way to know for sure until you look into the motor.

Brian, I'm sorry I have been hard to get in touch with lately. Hopefully I can make some time and check this out for you.

you could always put a LS1 in your car & be faster

greggers got a hold of something bad .....but then again a nice LS1 in that lil o fox coupe would be quick Ill put a bow tie on my car if it ment ill be faster than the other guy

I think it might be a chain tensioner...I heard the noise as you drove by while I was washing the 93L yesterday. just my 2 cents

I have heard of a few bad chain tensioners on mod motors that would not pump back up. Believe they have two different kinds you can get as well.
