max boost on pump gas?

how much boost do you think i could run on pump gas with the following setup. i would like to run a kenne bell the most but i dont know if its efficiency will allow me to run the amount of boost i want to on pump gas.

i need to be able to run it on 93 octane pump gas
saying i have a 347 stroker with a 8.5:1 compression ratio
the internals would be all forged (rods, pistons, crank) and the pistons would be dished.

if you need more info just tell me.
thanks,
PJ

Depends on the heads, cam, exhaust. Restrictive stuff will make for higher boost levels & heat-induced detonation. In general, I would say keep it below 15 psi and watch timing. You'll really have to just test though since they all respond differently.

Re: max boost on pump gas?

yeah i wouldnt run anymore than 16 psi since its a daily driver. i probably wont be running more than 14, just depends on what i can get away with on pump gas. i run 14 on my daily driven cobra and have no probs. what supercharger do you suggest, or a turbo...i prefer superchargers for a daily driver.

Turbo > S/C.

On a 347 I would either go turbo or centrifugal (Novi 2000, D1SC, or S trim). It'll have plenty of grunt down low and a KB will just make it next to impossible to hook up.

yeah but you have to remember that your cobra is intercooled whereas the setup you are looking at would not be.

I would think 10-12 psi max on a 347. Really depends on your tuner though and you better use someone who knows what they are doing. Remember you don't want to go much over 525rwhp or so because you will split the block (if using a stock cast block. Start at 10 psi and see what it will put down after a tune and go from there.

I agree with jeanyus though, a centri' blower would probably work best on that application

Re: max boost on pump gas?

its a CHP block, i dont know what they use but they told me their engine can support 600HP so i wasnt worried about over powering not to mention i probably wont have the money to get her to hook anyway and the whine of the KB is irresistable and thats why they got my heart. as for your input about the intercooler, no matter what setup i have it will be intercooled, i dont believe in running more than 6psi of un-intercooled boost. i really am most interested in procharger if i go centrif. and probably wouldnt do any other centrif. maker.

thanks for the help guys, i'm also having email conversations with CHP to see what they suggest.

Re: max boost on pump gas?

KB does not make any kit for a 5.0 based mustang that is intercooled.

Just remember that CHP's rating is flywheel hp which is going to equate to high 400's to the ground

Re: max boost on pump gas?

yeah, i was about that. i just find ithard to believe that you buy an engine built with better pparts from CHP but yet a stock terminator engine can support 525RWHP without a single problem not to mention thats with 14 psi of boost

plus i have a really good speed shop close by that could give me a great tune so i'm not to worried about blowing the block

and what about putting a main support system, would that be of any increase in power support?
