Eric - Gen1 Lightning question...get in here!

As you know my broghter has a 95 Gen1 L. We just installed a powerdyne on it last weekend, but he is already wanting to change heads and cams. For this reason he is wanting to switch from speed density to Mass Air. I was told that you used the Mass Air setup from an E-350. Can you please go into details as to what parts you used and the steps taken to install them?

Also, being that the Powerdyne was the first vehicle that I have ever installed a S/C on where is the best place to hook up the Boost gauge? I thought about hooking it into the FMU vac line, but wasn't sure that would be appropriate.

Thanks,
Todd

Run the boost gauge off any vacuum line coming off the intake

Todd,

The most important thing to remember when converting a Gen 1 Lightning to MAF is the controlling of the transmission.

Now, there are a few different ways to do this.

1. You can use a Mustang A9L computer and a standalone transmission controller like the Baumann http://www.baumannengineering.com/tcs.htm

2. Find a Ford Racing MAF conversion kit. There is a kit specifically for the trucks. (expensive and then you have to tune the trans on one computer and tune the truck with the other computer)

3. EEC4 to EEC5 MAF conversion (this is how mine is done) Required custom built wiring harness.

4. "VEX1” MAF conversion http://www.lasotaracing.com/html/ind...f4f129e1c88bea

Ryan (FireGuy50) can explain this all MUCH better than I can. And he will probably suggest the A9L/trans. controller combination.

A little more detail on how mine is done.

I use a computer from a 1996 F150 with the E4OD transmission. This computer is an EEC5 computer which means that it is OBD2 and has the diagnostic connector under the dash.

EEC4 computers are OBD1 and do not have the diagnostic port.

Ryan made me a custom wiring harness that uses part of my stock wiring harness and his custom harness combined together.

I know this isnt the best explanation, so hit me up with more questions on whatever I didnt explain well.

Eric

If we used the A9L Computer and stand alone Trans controller would I just use the engine harness from a 1996+ F150 for the MAF connections?

Thought of one more question. The P-Dyne kit came with an inline bypass pump. It cuts on when needed underboost...it works using some type of vaccume switch. How can I tell if it's working? I'm guessing that you cannot see boost in neutral, so I'm stuck on how to test and make sure that the pump was installed and working correctly. I guess a Fuel Pressure gauge would help....

Fuel pressure gauge is about the only way to determine whether the pump is working or not

No a 96+ F150 harness has a different EEC connector because of being OBD II
