Anyone put a aftermarket thermostat in a Mod Motor???????

I bought a 180 deg. Stant thermostat and when I went to install it the edges of the flange that holds the spring underneath the top plate wouldn't let me place the thermostat all the way in the hole. It apears that I could tap the thermostat and it would go in place, but I didn't want to damage the plastic intake. I went back to Autozone and compared the "direct replacement" Stant thermostat with the 180 deg. thermostat and they look exactly the same. Should I try tapping it into the hole?

Please excuse the quality of my quick sketch.

Re: Anyone put a aftermarket thermostat in a Mod Motor???????

I have had an aftermarket thermostat (Stant brand) in my 03 Lightning for about 2.5 years now.
I dont know the part number right off hand but I can get it if you need it since its sitting on a shelf at home
