C&L vs. Pmas and some other tuning questions

I'm sure most of you don't remember me, but I was on here last year for a little while getting my car ready.. it never got finished, so this spring I'm trying to make it happen again.

Anyway, I've heard from numerous people to go with Pro-M/Pmas for my MAF and that was what I was dead set on until I just went to the local mustang shop. The guy there swears by C&L which I haven't heard too much good about, and he said he had nothing but problems with Pro-M when he carried them. I've heard the complete opposite.. Any thoughts?

Also, the guy said a tuner isn't neccessary for these cars. He said the A9l will work just fine with fuel pressure and timing adjustments on the dyno.. and truth in that? I don't want to have 30-40 hp hidden away because I didn't get a TwEECer and then tune it.

PMAS and Pro-M are not the same company. C&L meters work by using the factory sensor and changing the sample tube ... in my experience this hasn't worked very well.

I would get a MAF from PMAS or hold out for the new meter AFM is coming out with ... a lot of hype but only time will tell how effective it is.

As far as tuning goes, what's "necessary" and what's "beneficial" isn't always the same thing ... just because it might not be a necessity to fine tune the car for it to be drivable that doesn't mean you won't be leaving something on the table.

tweecer
AFM PMS
SCT Chip
FAST XFI

take your pick.

I ran a C&L for a while and got it tuned as best as I could, but it seemed to be very proned to MAF wash in the lower RPM. I switched to a Pro-M Univer and it solved that problem and ran great all of the time.

With my new motor, I bought a PMAS 95mm Velocity MAF and it works great! I haven't had any problems out of it and the calibration was right on.

My recommendation would be to go with a PMAS.

If you ever go on the corral,do a search on C&L. Nothing but headaches from people that have used them.

pro-m went out of buisness not too long ago from what i remember. but if they are still around it is more of what brand name you want. c&l is good and so is pro m.

PMAS only in my opinion.

Anytime you don't run an EEC tuner of some sort you are leaving power on the table and some mpg. Sure the A9l has a lot of forgiveness when it comes to playing with the fuel press and timing but it still not achieve maximum results in power and economy.

I also recommend the Tweecer R/T for best bang for the buck

Another vote for the PMAS here, I got a 75mm for my 30#'s and the car idles wonderfully, no surging or hunting. Smooth all the way through the power band and A/F didn't spike or drop out on the wideband from 1000-6400 rpm. I'd recommend one to anyone.

also, on the tuning, I did tune mine by FP and timing for now but I intend to buy a Tweecer R/T when the finances get a little better in line.

Ok so I wasn't just hearing things. I remember a lot of guys on this site knew these cars in and out, so its good to hear that I haven't been in the wrong frame of mind. Thanks for the input, I'll be getting a Pmas.
