03 GT loss of oil pressure.

Last night I finished putting 3.73 gears, new plugs, and boots in this mustang. The guy picked it up and we drove it around with no problems at all.

20 min's later he drives up in the yard sounding like a pulpwood truck. I pop the hood and most of the noise is coming from the left side head. Sounds like a pulley is squealing and bout to lock up. Bad noise. Real bad noise. Engine dies a couple of times and then he said I got no oil pressure. I open the oil cap and a thick stream of smoke comes out. Very white and smelly.

There is no smoke at all in the exhaust. It has 29K on it and he drives pretty wild most of the time.

Any ideas on what happen? I'm just glad I didn't drive it before he did!

I wonder if the powder metal oil pump gear broke
hard to say with out tearing into the motor
and would be last thing to suspect

Did you check the oil level?

I am pretty sure you can replace the oil pump without removing the motor from the car

Oil level was good. Where is the sending unit for the oil pressure?

The sending unit is right around the oil filter. You maybe able to slid the oil pump out with the pan on but i'm not sure. May have to drop the k member if its the oil pump

Looks bad for it right now. I'll pull it back in the shop this week and start looking for damage.
