My next engine project.

I'm going to start on building a new engine this fall.Nothing wrong with my 306 mechanically speaking, and it only has 2000 miles on it to date. This is going to be an ongoing project for about a year or so,and it will have the best of everything (as time and money allow)so I'm looking for some opinions from you guys. I have the old 302 roller block out of my coupe that needs a rebuild, and if I go with that,I'm looking at either a 331 or 347.My other idea was a 351 based engine, since I know where I can get one out of an E-350 van cheap (which would be a bonus since they already have the double sump pan). Tonya heard Brians 418 last night, looked at me and said,"I think you need a bigger engine!"

If you're on a tight budget (like most of us are) and you have a lot of 8.2" motor stuff on your 302 that you would like to reuse, then I would recommend not going 351. With the 9.5" motor, you'll have to buy new headers, intake, hood, distributor, flywheel, balacer, etc.... However, if you plan on buying that stuff anyway, then you may as well go with the 351-based motor.

True, the van I was talking about is at the pull a part, and has everything on it,minus the intake(which I would toss anyhow) and 1 head. But I would still need the headers and all the other stuff you mentioned.I've been leaning toward a 347 since I already have that other block.

I vote 347. Some good 2.02 valve'd heads, F cam or one of the AFM cams, and a 150 shot

So who makes the best 347 kit? I know Eagle makes good stuff, and I've seen the Scat kits, but I have'nt heard much about their Ford stuff.I know back when I used to mess around with aircooled VW's their stuff was good.Or would I be better off putting together my own kit?

I don't think the 347 would survive very long being turned to 8000 on a regular basis.

I vote for sticking with the 302 block since you already have a lot of what you'd need.
