Best tunning software

I will be new to the tunning world but would like to have the ability to tune my own car just don't want to spend $600.00 for someone to burn a chip and only have one option if I change something with my setup. I also don't have $3000 for a fast system so any help would be great. I thought of buying the anderson pms, or the quarterhorse but don't really know anything about them. My car is not a daily driver, and will only be driven every once in a while at the track or to a couple of cruise ins.

Quarterhorse is the only one out that I know of that has real time on the fly change ability. You can change any parameter in the EEC while the car is running. There is a ton of support on EECtuning.org. Stop over there and check it out.

Having owned both a Tweecer R/T and a PMS, I would prefer a Tweecer or equivalent on a car that sees street duty.
If we are talking about a car that sees WOT 90 % of the time, then a PMS would work well for you. PMS doesn't really have a part throttle tuning ability (street driving) but does have the ability to control all parameters based off boost via a 3 bar map sensor.

SCT offers a self tuning tool that used to be somewhat reasonable in price especially for people like me who change combos every few years (when I had my fox body)

What all do I have to buy with the quarterhorse to be able to tune it myself? Just the chip and editor? I have a laptop with windows xp so the computer isn't a problem.

You will need the chip, binary editor, engine analyzer ( not
a must but very helpful ) a wideband O2 sensor. If your
laptop doesn't have a serial port you will need an adapter
to hook up the wideband so you can datalog which is a
must. The programs you can get on Clint Garrity's site
( eecanlyzer.net ) as a free download and you can buy
the license as a package deal. There is some good info
and links there too

Second the quarterhorse, Binary editor tuning solution. Mines been great. I'm using a F3 jaybird though. No on the fly tuning but still for the money it's hard to beat.
With the strategy file I got from Sailor Bob it's pretty much on par with SCT's Pro race pack minus the templets to build the tune for you. Some of the Strategys have some templets out there though forgot the site as mine didn't have any out there.

The car already runs great at part throttle and just cruising around so wide open throttle would be what I'm really looking for and I think the newer version pms has a built in two step and tuning in real time. Besides me, the happy pedal on the right, and boost are like fat kids at a all you can eat little Debbie buffet.
