I got the crank out...got some discoloration on some of the throws. That's to be expected I suppose, but it looks like the crank will be ok.

At least the girdle is custom machined if the crank ever does that again

I've seen similar issues when the transmission converter-to-crank spacing is off...or the pilot part of the converter is too tight (painted or powdercoated). Also seen issues when the driveshaft was too long and pushes everything forward under acceleration.
What clearance did you start out with? Should be setup somewhere around .006-.007 ideally. How long did you drive it before this issue? |

Matt, not sure what the initial endplay was set at....the engine was built about 5-6 years ago by Billy Kimmel from Columbus, GA and has less than 1K N/A miles on it and "maybe" 20 turbo'd miles on it. Part of the reason I could never hear the racket it was making was the Edelbrock Gear drive and the preponderance of exhaust leaks!!!
At least I found it now instead of later. I've checked the converter and haven't seen anything that looks fishy, but that's not to say that it's not seating properly against the flexplate/crank. A buddy of mine who works for Jasper and is a mustang guy seems to think it was b/c of misaligned accessories (which is entirely possible) as I "used" to have a cobbled together Trickflow A/C delete kit on there (probably 95% of the mileage that's on the car) that I KNOW for a fact wasn't aligned just right.... All I know is that the crank is more than likely FUBAR'D .....

Misaligned accessories isn't going to do that. The damage is on the back side so follow what Coupe said to check and you will find the problem.
