gearing

my first passes down the 1/4 mile where good. but i am running out the 1/4 at about 5800 rpm. and my 60ft is down from my best. looked at all my time slips and i cut some 1.69 60 ft with 26" tire. now i have 28" with the 4.10s. i know i can pick my 60 ft back up with work on the car. and all this is on a 125 shot. my car runs best shifting at 5000-5500 rpms. and really dont want to turn it much more than that. my ? is when i start putting more mods on the car such as long tube headers, TB, and a bigger shot of nos i am going to run out of motor on top end. right? would going to a 3.90 gear be enough to make up for it? i fill like going with a taller tire than the 28" will slow me down.

28's and 4.10s is a good mix on the mod motors. It will give you enough gear to turn the tire but the tire height will help lower the effective ratio.

when you starting adding stuff like youve mentioned, you prob will notice your car will like more rpms.

hunter on here has about the same set up and he is shifting at 6100 or 6200 with his car.

Granted his car doesnt sixty foot like yours, but I wouldnt sweat the 4.10s

The reason your sixty foot is down is because you went from a 26 inch tall tire to a 28. Hence you lost gear because with the 26s and 410 gear you had somewhere in around 4.30

I'm surprised that motor doesn't do better beyond 5500 rpms. Mod motors typically like to rev...even the SOHC's.

i have played with the rpms on this thing and it slows down if i turn it more than 5500 rpms. i think the cams have something to do with that. i know my first pass i turned it 5500 and went 12.22 and then turned it 5000 on the 2nd one and went 12.14
