fun times with teh 03?
sooo..rear pinion seal on the diff cover is leaking..no idea why. haven't done anything detrimental to the car; no 6 grand clutch dumps..nothin.. haven't even done any work on that end of the car..i've put wheels and tires on her..anybody have any probs out of their Irs?
if you've heard from travis, NO2morr0 he inquired about a loud whining coming from his car, since E.M. ford did some werk on it..supposedly they fouled somthin up.. called me up and asked if i had the same problem.(loud whine comin out a highspeed decleration(70+ mph decelerating) I told him no. i haven't heard anything.. but when I went to his house to drop off the tires he bought from me, we noticed the rear diff was leaking on to the crossovers.. got an O/C at Walker today and had the tech look at it, he said it the seal was chewed on oneside.. leaking.. any ideas? is this a prob with IRS? |

not a typical problem that I have seen. We have not had a leakage problem in Shell's vert in the 35k miles we have put on it. I did the gear swap in hers 30k miles ago.

Mine leaks a small bit but nothing major. I would imagine the wheelhop makes the cover flex and breaks the seal. I have a brace on mine now. Just going to keep a check on the fluid

update, yah she was leaking..baddd..round the edge of the rear rear diff.. cover has been off before.casue some low impedance rtv was used on it.. got her up on the lift and pulled the pumpkin out..opened her up.. bone dry..as far as a resevoir inside of gear lube.. filled her back up, put her back in with some motorcraft sealant used on turbo deisel apps..see if she leaks now..
talked with a buddy of mine that werks at a dealer he said a few 03 terminators are coming in with leaks in the rear diff.. from people putting floor jacks under the pumpkin..but so far so good. nothin yet..now we jus have a problem getting these camaros outa my front airdam..

That's the stuff we used to help seal the PRC halo girdle I used on my 331. That stuff is like cement in a tube!!

Im not familiar with the Ford IRS, but I know that problem is common on the 98+ Fbodies and even on the C5s. I had the same problem with my old Z28 while it was under warrenty. They said if I hadn't had the warrenty, it would have cost about $700 to fix.

Glad you got it fixed Jase. And for the record ford does not use gaskets on their diff covers, they have always used RTV. Atleast in the older ones they did and in my 05 F-150.

you need this, They should of came with these from the factory.
http://www.billetflow.com/irs_brace.htm Takes the tension off the weak stock cast cover, and puts it on the stainless brace, especially if you run into wheelhop. Also known to take stock IRS deep in the mid and low 10's, and 9's in some cases. The diff in the cobra is a FRPP unit, 31 spline setup, its not a weak unit by anymeans.
