Question Blinker Problem

The blinker in the 98 is acting funny. When you use the right blinker everything works fine. When you go to use the left blinker it does not work and the buzzer goes off. I went to O'Reileys yesterday and swapped the relay and it did not help. I did discover though that if you do not fully depress the indicate that the blinker will work fine. Also all the bulbs work with the brake and the emergency flasher.

take out the directional arm module and spray some contact cleaner on all the exposed contacts you can see. should be about 5 screws , 3 philips head outside on the column cover and 2 security star screws holding the module inside. disconnect the 2 harnesses.

maybe your blinker fluid is low? ,seriously though, sonds to me like either the multi function switch,or the turn signal cam is messed up,our Explorer has the same issue, but with it,the washer switch also only works if you hold the turn signal lever, and your mouth just right!

I told them that but they assured me there was no such thing as blinker fluid is there a way to tell which is bad?

Purple posted while I was typing!,try what he said, and smear a thin coat of dielectric grease on all the contacts to keep the from corroding, the turn signal cam has 2 or 3 screws that hold it in place,it's possible that they might just be loose,I've had it happen before! The bad thing is,you have to pull the steering wheel off to check it!,just be sure to d/c the battery before you pull the airbag!,who told you there was no such thing as the switch,or cam?

My 96 did the same thing when I had it, these switches are notorious for going bad and cleaning the contacts will fix the problem as it did in mine.

I did not have time today to tear into it but I sprayed some electrical cleaner into the joint and it worked correctly for a couple of tries and then went back to crap

guess I will have to tear it apart, so the bag has to come off to do all this?

No the bag doesn't have to come off. Take the cover off the steering column and you should be able to see from there how to take it out. I really can't remember what screws have to come out without looking at it but I am 100% sure the bag and steering wheel don't have to come out.
