96 GT questions
This is my first 4.6 car, so please bear with me LOL
First, spark plugs.. what are the best ones to use? Second, where are they? and what would be required to change them? third, When going to an O/R X-pipe, should i get any MIL elims, or just let the CEL stay on? Fourth, the car is aod-e. how much improvement could i see from a shift-kit? maybe barking the tires on the 1 to 2 shift?

1. personal preference. I use NGK in all my stuff
2. on top of the valve covers...follow the plug wires 3. 5/8" deepwell socket, universal swivel, extension, ratchet 4. probably won't notice a tire barking difference, but the shift will be much firmer.

NGK's Are great plugs! I've used the v-grooves in my 5.0, but they also make an iridium plug which is awesome. They are cheaper than denso's too!

If you're planning on getting it tuned sometime soon, don't bother with the MILs. Just have it taken care of when it's tuned.

numbers 3 and 4 will be the most difficult ones to get to, the rest you shouldn't need the swivel

best plugs, NGK-- i use BR7EF's(3346 is the new part#) but for an NA you will need a little hotter plug probably the tr55's
to change them, the back one on either side will generally be the more difficult due to being next to the firewall but overall it's pretty easy as for MIL's, just get a retune DO NOT GET A SHIFT KIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! trans-go shift kits and most others are garbage that will blow your trans in less than 50k miles you have a 4r70w not a normal AOD-E http://www.tccoa.com/articles/tranny/index.html# read the article on the J-mod, it is the only "safe" way to go about doing a shift kit for a 4r70w, it was developed by one of the ford engineers that originally designed the 4r70w and it will make the trans shift firmer, last longer, and run cooler than stock i've put more than 20 10lb bottles of nitrous through my 4.6 with the "J-mod" at 100 and 150 shot and it's still alive and works like when i first did the valve body mod 60,000 miles ago(car has 91k) another thing besides the shift kit that is a night and day difference on an automatic mustang is a well made aftermarket torque converter with 3500-4200 stall speed depending on your mods/driving habits |
