Re: What's Next Is.....

biggest difference between the 2 trannys with 4.10's in the rear is that 2nd, 3rd, and 5th, will pull slightly harder in the 6 speed.

But on a road course, I wonder if the 6 speed would put you in the sweet spot on the tach or would it be to low and put you in the next higher gear

Re: What's Next Is.....

  • I gained gas mileage by going to a 4.10 gear. (18 city / 25 tip-toeing Hwy)
  • If you get 6th gear in the city, ticket costs will far outweigh any mileage savings
  • T-56's weigh 30 pounds more than a T-45 (because you sure don't need to swap to a Tremec 3650)
  • Our cars have the aerodynamic signature of a brick, you won't use 6th gear for long on any sort of a "load" situation
  • Automatic Mach1's have a cast crank which limits RPM potential

The only reason I was going to swap to a T-56 was for the .83 5th gear so I can pull straightaways a little better, otherwise the T-45 or T-5 is just fine. At 85mph I'm right about 3200rpm and I can pull 4th gear to well over 100mph and have reached 135mph in 5th. Can Mustangs go faster than 140mph, yes but they get unstable quick and it has nothing to do with suspension. With the stock wing on you probably won't get much past 145mph anyway.

If you really, really, really want a manual I suggest throwing in a five-speed.

For some reason I thought I saw a auto shifter in his car on the Dragon.

Is that some new racial term?

Re: What's Next Is.....

Lee those ratios confirm what i want out of my car. The final drive in 6th will be about the same as my 3.55's now. But on the track i can get out of the hole a little quicker, as long as i can get the power to the ground. Thanks for all the input guys.

The generous pressure applied to the right-most pedal could have something to do with that.

Re: What's Next Is.....

I can happily say Joseph is right, i get 25mpg with 4.10's

I wouldnt swap to a t-56. I dont think the benefits outweight the cost since you are already running a 3650, as others have pointed out already

Im not going with the 03 cobra or 2000 cobra r t-56, im going with the t-56 viper spec its a little different ratios.
