General Automotive Question

Are there any ford ranger pickups that come with an 8.8 in the rear? I have heard people talke of using the axles in a mustang but didn't know if the rear was the same or what.

I am thinking of putting together a fuel injected ranger pickup....kinda a hobby project that i don't think would wind up being too expensive. Does anyone know of any good site w/ hot to's of FAQ's on this subject, i looked for a little while and didn't come up with much.

I think a five speed, 5.0 with H/C/I would pretty quick, maybe even a little bottle.. yet would still be able to haul stuff around. On another note, i really like the lightnings, but everyone i have looked at in this area is in the 20's and that seems high but is probably just me.

any advice, and or imput is welcomed, talk me out of it, or into it. Just kinda tossing around the idea

Re: General Automotive Question

I am unsure but it may have been only the 4.0L 4wd Rangers. Unsure on what model explorers had an 8.8 but I know they had them because I worked on one a few years ago.

On the axles, it doesn't matter whether it came from a 7.5 or a 8.8 rear, the axles are the same diameter. Only the spline count affects that item.

Oh yeah, cost will be more than the mustang to transform the truck. Especially if you include the kit that you have to buy to put a 5.0 and tranny in.

Re: General Automotive Question

cool info Lee, i was wondering if it is even worth it. Kinda trying to plan another project, kinda want something different than a stang for while. That or a stock stang for a DD

hard to make up my mind. Thanks for putting the thread in the appropriate place, was unsure if it classified as tech, but wasn't sure if it belonged in talk either.........

Re: General Automotive Question

I always wanted to do a 5.0 Ranger.
After college I had an S-10 with a 350/4spd and it was a great beater truck and would haul butt too.

I will look around also on the web for some sites, if I find anything I will post it here.

Re: General Automotive Question

i found a site called ranger-forums.com, i have been reading for around 2 hours........I saw a teal one at FFW about two years ago running consistent low 10 second runs pulling the tires in the first couple gears with a five speed to me that is kinda awesome. I talked to the guy, he said it was just something he put together over the years, and didn't have a ton of money in it.

Re: General Automotive Question

I had a 98 4.0L 5spd 2wd Ranger with the 8.8 ... I put 4.10's in it.
