HJC Helmets

Any bike riders have any experience with these? I am looking at the CL-14 model which is a full face helmet at $130. This will do double duty as my car/cart/motorcycle helmet. Suggestions on other inexpensive helmets would be appreciated too!

Re: HJC Helmets

Do not buy a motorcycle helmet as it will not pass W2W standards, they are rated differently. Even though the M rated helmet is cheaper now, if/when you go to W2W you'll need to buy a SA rated helmet, and you'll have wasted the money on the M rated one.

I think the current SA rating is 00 or 05. Mine is a SA95 rated Bell. I think the helmets are good for 10 years.

I think the difference in the rating is that the M rating is for one major impact, where as the SA rating is for multiple impacts.

Re: HJC Helmets

Be careful when selecting helmets because there is a difference between cycle helmets and actual race helmets. Some auto sanctions frown up on the use of cycle helmets.

Re: HJC Helmets

Solo I and II allow M2000 ratings for helmets, but I just saw were SCCA was going to make a ruling of full face helmets for the 2005 season. It seems that using a full-face helmet in an air bag equipped car is a bad idea. Something about broken jaws and base skull fractures.

Guess I need to look at a SA rated Bell helmet.

Re: HJC Helmets

Good thing I don't have airbags Jegs has pretty good prices on helmets, if you haven't looked there. That's where I bought my full face helmet.
