wiring

there are several questions here of which i want to double check to be sure that i am correct. i am going to go ahead and hide most of the wires on the drivers side while i am replacing the battery/cables/siloniod.

there is only one group of wires coming thru the main harness on that side that do not plug in. these come beside the strut tower then back into the fender beside the windshield washer. as best i can tell these are for the headlights. is this correct? want to be sure before i go off cutting them. they are color coded but still nice to know.

i will replacing all the cables (battery +/-, starter cable) except the ones from the alternator. i have found pretty good deals on 1 and 2 gauge cable. which would be better? also this may be stupid, is there a difference in the black and red cable? other than the color.

last one. there is a EEC Test port on the strut tower. i am guessing this is not a good thing to hide.

thanks for any input, i just want to double check myself.
