Reverse manual valve bodys?

Can someone explain these to me. I get that it's an auto and that you manually shift it. Can anyone go into more depth in layman's terms? Are these harder to drive on the street than say a standard manual trans? Reliable?

BTW its a TH400 if interested.

instead of going prnd21 its prn123

you shift it yourself and the pattern is back wards. Not so much harder to drive, you just have a few more things to do while driving, always gotta work it back to first, like a manual tranny

It is only in the gear that you select as well. If you're stopped and the trans is in drive (3), then it will take off in 3 and the converter will really spin up, Consequently, if you're going down the road in 1, it will not shift until you click the shifter (back), then it goes to 2. Line pressure (which is what usually triggers an automatics shifting) is constant and usually quite high, thus an aggressive shift.
