paint job cost

how much would a paint job cost if we brought the car in striped down sanded out and ready for a primer coat?

we would have all the prep work done except a primer coat

i wouldn't be getting anything special just the OEM red or maybe black and i would have a new stage 3 roush kit on it...how much you think it would cost?

i meen me and my father can lay down a kick ass paint job, but we have no where big enough to spray one....we have everything we need to do it, do you know if you can rent booths?

Paint jobs are still high but will be alittle less since you have some work done. I'm guessing for a good quality job will be between 2000 and 2800 still. We don't even do all over paint jobs at our shop, unless its my cars I have also seen some pretty good jobs come from peoples garages that was cleaned and was buffed afterwards

If you want you can build your own booth in your garage, take some plastic tarping and drap it around the area were your going to spry the car, hopefully you have a window in the garage, if so, put a box fan in it, blowing out, have the tarping connected to that, on the other side, cracke your garage door, and put in a row of furnace filters to filter the incoming air. Lastly wet down the garage floor before you start to spray.

If your still wanting to take it to a shop, it will totally depend on the shop, and if the are busy or not.
Some may be cheaper than otherrs, but you usually get what you pay for.
I would think a min. would be $1250 up to $3000

Re: paint job cost

You could always try renting a spray booth as well. If you have the skills to lay paint, that is the route I would go...

Re: paint job cost

You should get by with a couple hundred bucks, I imagine. Might have to use the booth on a day they are closed, though...

The blue paint for my '91lx (well the youngest boy now) was $175 a gal. plus all the little extra's. About $550 total for the materials just to paint the car. No major body work either.....and I had all the sandpaper, strainers etc. etc. I have about $750-$850 total in my DIY paint job. That includes all the buffing material also.
Which by the way is still a lot cheaper than $1800-$2200 which is what I was quoted before I decided to just go ahead and do it myself.

The only problem I have now is my wife wants me to paint the engine bay while the engine is out of it........

Re: paint job cost

Paint price varies according to the color - reds cost the most, and metallics or color shifting are top dollar as well.

If your dad is doing the painting, surely he has some connections somewhere to get some good pricing...
