TSB on 03 Alternator?

heres the skinny, friday i wound up dead in the water at my stepdads house.. coming down the street, the stereo flickered and shut off..but then it came back on..not a minute later, i pull in the driveway and shut her off. get back in it couple minutes later, turn the key.. nothin. pop the hood. check all the culprits..nothin..so i try again, nothin.. dead battery i fiqure, pull off the old one and it's a stocker motorcraft that came with the car..I figure it's ran its course and is jus gone..no biggy, take her to test and it's gone.. swap her out the next mornin, purrs like a kitten, fine and dandy, away we go..

today, i get in the cobra and am off to do the errands. Nothins weird but same thing happend today. stereo flickerd, shut off and then the car just started hunting an surging, finally died..jumped it off and made it back home, but the car shut off very soon after i got in the driveway.

i'm guessing its the alt- cause the battery is brand new(less than a week)
full tank..haven't ran it since saturday but a brand new battery should be able to turn over easy..

any keyboard mechanics see anything wrong with my prognosis?

99% chance its the alternator. Alot of the 03-04 cobras have had 1 or 2 go out already on them. Don't know if there is a tsb on them but they are expensive. I always get my alternators rebuilt.

I agree with Mike on the alternator. We had to put a new one on our focus a month ago and its an 04 model as well. Way to soon for a alt. to go out in my opinion

long fun ordeal.. i'm not sure if the falty alty(har har), drained the first battery and the car was simply running off the fresh battery for a small amount of time..or if my stocker battery was due for a new one to begin with. Going under the assumption that the first battery was an original and just old (a motorcraft) I switched it out. first time it died, i managed to get it home,(with the help of a local police officer/mustang enthusiast).. drivability was sluggish, weird interior dash lights illuminated.. and died sitting in the drive way.

When it wouldn't jump off from another car and stay idiling for longer than 10 seconds.. I took the newer battery out and recharged it up..put it back in and the car started fine..got it downtown to a local repair shop and they diagnosed it was the alty/charging system..on goes the new one.

mod motor parts prices..suck...
man, i'm glad i'm back in a 5.0

she's fine, purrin like a kitten, wallets a lil lighter..

Thats the thing I was wondering....if you did buy one, how much did it set you back?? I heard they were pretty proud of 'em.

I guess that's better than I had heard.....I heard they were right around 300. But 235 is still up there.
