head removal

i need to change the head gaskets on my 03 cobra, do i have to pull the motor out to change the heads or can they be taken off with the motor in it.will they hit on the fender well. thanks

You can remove them with the motor in the car IF you have head bolts, but if you have head studs the motor will have to come out.

Werd, either way its going to suck. What made them blow? Alot of boost? detonation?

it has studs so i guess the whole motor has to come out. that sucks.it had a bad thermostat and it ran hot while i was on interstate and blew both head gaskets.the boost had nothing to do with it it had been running perfect til then. i'm running 20 lbs. on it now but it was running at 26lbs.

Well don't feel to bad atleast when you have the engine out it will be MUCH easier to change the head.

why cant you just uninstall the head studs then re install them?

the ARP headstuds I put on a DSM I have had an allen head in the stud that I used to run them all the way down. Take the nut off and then back the stud out just like a bolt.
