Depends how much power and torque the engine will be making and how heavy the car is. C4's seem to hold power in lightweight cars but the threshold seems to be about an honest 750 horsepower...and that's with a nicely built one. Turbo power is especially rough on C4's.
The AOD/4R70W can move a heavier car into that power range, but still has its weaknesses, especially shifting into drive (unless you have special components like a lentech valvebody which also uses reverse clutches in drive to add holding power). The AOD can be built to be reliable at 1000hp, but look to spend $2500- $3k for just the trans...about twice the price of a "Comp" style C4. To me, the overdrive is worth it though. TH400 is the best bang for the buck...Just a 34 element sprag, better valve body, good clutches, and a converter and you're just about bullet-proof at 800hp. To the OP... what clutch was it? Have you thought about a different clutch? Certainly cheaper and easier than a complete swap over, at least for now.. |

Yea Im running m/t et street radial's right now but they break loose about halfway through third. I know where I can get some wrinkle walls from though. I also have some 31 spline hardened axle's and a strange 31 spline full race spool for whenever I get the extra money for the c-clip eliminators.

Drove the car a few times last weekend in the 98-100 degree heat and temp never got over 180, I have a 160 thermostat. I thought of buying another methanol injection kit to cool the intake charge, I wish I would have kept the one I had.

Yes I am running a fluidine 3 core aluminum radiator with an electric fan that Is wired to come on as soon as the ignition is turned on. Mine would probably stay at or around 160 if it didn't have a 3' long 4" thick intercooler mounted In front of it.
