Below you'll find a well rounded list of tools to get the job done when building or rebuilding your engine.
Here’s what you’re going to need to get started: Set of Flat Head and Phillips Head Screwdrivers of all sizes Set of open/box end wrenches (1/4” – 1”) Set of Allen Wrenches (SAE and Metric) 3/8” Drive Socket Set (3/8” – 3/4”) 3/8” Deep Well Sockets (3/8” – 3/4”) 1/2" Drive Socket Set (7/16” – 1-1/4”) 1/2” Deep Well Sockets (7/16” – 1-1/4”) 1/2" Drive Breaker Bar Pliers Needle Nose Pliers Diagonal Cutting Pliers C-Clip Pliers Set of Vice Grips Set of Punches Small and Large Hammers A Five-Pound Sledge Hammer Torque Wrench Drill and Bits Putty Knife or Gasket Scraper Hack Saw (use 24 teeth-inch for best results with metal) Magnetic Bolt Tray Large Top Chest or Heavy Duty Tool Box with Drawers Tools to Rent or Buy: Piston-Ring Compressor Harmonic Balancer Puller Valvespring Compressor Freeze Plug Driver Seal Driver Thread Chaser Small Grinder (if you port your own heads) Easy Outs (for broken bolts) Engine Hoist Engine Stand Degree Wheel & Pointer Dial Indicator There are numerous specific specialty tools that can make the job a bit easier (swivel extensions, ratchet wrenches, ect...) but the above list will be a huge step towards having a set of tools fit for any mechanics garage.

Good list,but I'd like to add a couple of things,especially when building engines....
Cylinder hone Feeler gauge(s) Piston ring pliers Small magnet pick up tool (comes in handy on valve locks) Dial caliper Not trying to jack your thread,but they are needed when building one up.Also fairly inexpensive.

you guys must plan on building these engines bone dry...lol.. you forgot one of the most important things....................................head bolt sealer and rod bolt sealer, oh yea also the grease lube for the bearings.........
