i wonder if it has a chip or has had a programmer put in it.it is possible that it has had a tune put in it or something that requires 93 octane.

need to check it first to see if it has a chip.the computer is located behind the passengers side kick panel.i would look at it and see if it has a chip plugged into the back side of it.if it doesnt have a chip then it would have to been reflashed or done with some type of handheld tuner.

just keep running it on 93

+1

There isn't really that much of a price difference at the pump. Even if the car was bone dry you would be looking at what $3 difference max?

Girl friends actually gets better milage with 93, Dont know about the Mach have always ran 93. Just always run the 93, I have found over the years of being in maintance, that the 93 is usually cleaner and better quality gas anyway.

+1 on looking for a chip. Sounds like a 93 octane tune to me.

If a car is tuned for 87 octane, there is really no advantage to running 93. Our Camry and tC both get 87 octane, as did my Ranger and Thunderbird. Octane is merely a measure of how much compression the gasoline can withstand before it spontaneously ignites. This is the reason a high compression motor will ping (premature detonation) on low octane gas. The octane rating has absolutely nothing to do with how "clean" the fuel is.

I have to run 93 or over in my Cobra and my SVT Focus but I don't think it is required for Gt's. I have heard that gas stations are putting additives to the gas to make it go further and they make more money and that may be the problem with the lower octane gas.
