Its time for something to be done.I am on the side line.2nd is gone.Should i fix this one and maybe put good parts in it,Or what would i be looking at putting a 6 speed behind it?If it will go.My plans are to put a 5.4 in it maybe next year with a little boost.

geuss i should seach more brfore posting.

1. Yes, you can elogate the holes on the crossmember where it bolts to the tranny but I would suggest just buying the correct crossmember. You can pick them up for around $40-50 from Steve @ Tousley.

2. Any drivetrain shop should be able to get one. I believe a Powerglide uses a 27 spline yoke. For driveshaft, you can have your stock driveshaft shortened 1.25" and get slip yoke with 1330 ends. You could also get a stock 03-04 Cobra driveshaft and just swap your solid axle pinion flange on the shaft using Precision u-joint #448. It's a 1330/1350 combo joint that will mate the two.

3. Clutch fork and TOB are the same. You can use your stock clutch too since the Cobra T-56 using a 10 spline input shaft.

4. Not sure on the long tubes. Never put any on a Mustang so hopefully someone else can chime in on that for ya.

I just installed my T-56 last night. All I gotta do is bolt the shaft up, throw the exhaust on and fill it with fluid. I finally get to drive my car again! I started tearing the car down Saturday before last and woke up the next day sick. Car has been sitting on stands since.

EDIT: Oh yeah, you'll also need a pigtail to wire up the reverse lockout solenoid. Go to Autozone and grab MotorMite part# 85100. You can find it over in the section with all the wiring pigtails. It's labeled as a Gm Coolant Temperature Sensor pigtail. At my Autozone, it was $8.99.

I put a t56 in my 96 when I had it, its a straight forward swap pretty much, easier on the 99 up cars cause of the bolt in crossmember and the speedo pickup being the same. I would go ahead and upgrade to the 26 spline input shaft while everything is out. You can run longtubes with the t56 and it makes clutch swaps easier except for kooks 1 3/4 ones

I also found this.And i plan on 4.10s to.

from what i've been told, the stock 1st gear ratio for a t45 is around 3.3X. the cobra t56 has a 2.95 1st gear and the viper/chevy t56 has a 2.66. The n/a 4.6 needs all the help off the line with that 3.3X 1st gear of the t45/tr3650.

now, judging by your signature, you have some extra power to play with, but have you taken this into consideration? is this your daily driver? your 60' in theory should increase by a lot going from at least 3.3 to 2.95. maybe crazy rear end gears could compensate, and with a .61 6th gear, your highway cruising won't be affected very much.

the reason i'm chiming in is that i have a stock 00gt that i'm putting 4.30s in and have been on a quest to get better hwy mpg, be it different 5th gear ratio, or new tranny altogether. being that i live in california where gas prices are high, i could really benefit from a .62 (t3650) or .61 (t56) 5th gear instead of my crappy .67.

I don't know how much drag racing you do but I had 4:30's in my car with the 03 cobra t56 and was running out of gear at the track around the 1000' mark, I don't know what gear you would need in a gt.

26" tire, 28's might have done it but I didn't keep the car long enough to try them

Unless I am misunderstanding what this guy is saying, that is the dumbest statement I have ever seen.

The 3.35 ratio of 1st gear is lower than a 2.95 gear ratio and IS what helps the 4.6 get off the line
