Check engine light

couple days ago i noticed my speedometer was jumping up and down while cruisuing down the road. today it has stopped working and now the check engine light is on. also the overdrive light is flashing on and off. car is driving fine with no problems. anyone know what would be doing this? is my trans going out?

I would say its electrical if your car is running fine.

Sometimes an alternator going out makes everything go crazy.

The check engine light is probably because the EEC is not seeing vehicle speed input.

Have you pulled a code yet? You can swing by some time and I'll do it for you or you can just hit up AutoZone and they can do it too. At least with that you can maybe find somewhere to start.

Also, yank off the battery cable for about 15 minutes. Let the computer and car reset and then crank it back up. I swear these things are like computers and a fair portion of problems can be fixed with a little "reboot".
