I have a dead valve spring

on one of the exhaust valves. Called AFR about it and they asked me questions on how many miles the heads on them (which was low) then they asked me about my cam (AFM B-31) as soon as I answered that the sales guy told me that I was going to need to replace all valve springs because the cam I am running is to aggressive for their 'stock' springs and their upgraded springs.

They guy said that he spoke from experience. If I understood him right, he said it wasn't the lift itself that was hard on their springs so much as it was the duration in conjunction with the lift on the AFM cams (218/228 @.050 duration and .544 lift)

So now, all of my damn springs on myheads have got to be replaced with some from comp cams

Are you running a dual spring with a dampner, whats your spring pressure. Usually the springs that come with the heads when you buy them will not take alot of cam. I would recommend a dual spring witha dampner and about 135lbs of pressure if you are running a Hyd. cam

yeah it was a dual spring. I think seat pressure was around 125 or so as of right now

I'm betting the ramp rates are pretty steep on that cam. Fast ramp rates can give valvesprings fits at times.

You should look into the beehive springs since you gonna have to replace them anyway. You do know there is a way to replace valvesprings without removing the heads, right?

yes I do but the heads have been off the car since last Thursday. Dropped them off last Friday to be inspected

Fast ramp rates with high RPM kill springs.

Here's a couple combos to try...

Camshaft: Crane PN# 449601 224/232 .542/.563
Springs: Crane PN# 99838

or a little less but niiice streetability:
Cam: Comp PN# 35-302-8 220/224 .512/.533
Springs: Comp PN# SK35-302-8 (I think)

Both nice blower cams I would use in a heartbeat. The comp will probably be smooth as glass, but the crane stuff will be cheaper.

Lee so your saying that if you keep your current setup your going to have to keep replacing spring every2,000 miles or so???

not changing cams just going to a better spring

I sent my heads to the machine shop and my springs were dead as well, mine were edelbrock RPM heads and the springs that came on them. So now they have some nice comp springs that can handle a hydraulic roller or solid roller of .600+ lift

Something else has to be goin wrong there??? I have used the same springs for 4yrs, and havent had any problems and my motor stays at 7,000rpms and here lately I have turned it 7300..... You have to have a good spring that will maintain good pressure...I would go with comp cam springs, I haven never had any problems.
