Problems with New Project

Just to update you-- I sold my engine Sunday and had it out Monday. Then i turned around and purchased a 347 from a buddy (FULLY built). Anyways, i got his engine and my transmission put in today. Well i started looking at the water pumps and they are a lil different. I started to take his off and replace it with mine but i found out quickly that i have to take the harmonic balancer off.... Is there a easier way to take it iff other than a pulley puller??? If there is let me know. Thanks.

Re: Problems with New Project

You will have to have it tuned or your car will never run right with the 347. As for the HB, pulley puller is all I know to use.

You MUST use a harmonic balancer puller; they are designed to pull on bolts that you screw into the balancer. If you use a pulley puller that grabs the outside of the balancer, you will more than likely tear up the dampening material and possibly pull the balancer apart. Please invest in one or borrow one from someone. You will also need to use the special installer to put it back on. If you try to use the crank bolt to put it back on, you will find that it won't reach. Even if it does, you will risk stripping the threads.

You should be able to rent both of these tools from Auto Zone.

Now explain to me why you have to take the balancer off to change the water pump.

Re: Problems with New Project

BC the timing cover and water pump are for a 93 and they are different from the 95. And yes the puller i have screws into the crank i just cant get the arms of it stick onto the balancer.
Nathan-- Im buying a fuel pump and regulator when im finished and taking it to have it tuned ...but it wont be on the road much anyways.

Re: Problems with New Project

If you need a good water pump for the older style (pre-94), I have an edelbrock in the for sale section that only has an hour of run time on it.

Oh, okay.

Out of curiosity, what are the differences? Also, are these differences going to effect the mounting any of your accesories?

I was wondering the same thing. Is the balancer for an sn-95 extremely large?
