building a 306

I would like to know who else has built a 306. What kind of HP are you making? Also what parts/ kits were used and other things aswell. I can't make up my mind what to do with my motor.

Re: building a 306

I have a 306 NA carb'ed engine in my '85.
The class that I run in limits my engine mods, but heres whats in it.
stock block 0.030" over, ligned honed crank journels, bock decked
'66 289 HO heads 1.94/1.60 chevy valves ported and polished
app. 10.5:1, pistons are flat top and have a zero deck height, file fit rings.
stock rods, edges are ground flat, shot penned, ARP bolts
stock crank - bobbed wieghted balanced
custom cam (0.500" lift, 228 duration at .050")
Comp cam magnum roller rockers (1.6)
short block is very well balanced, everything is within 1/2 gram.
Edelbrock RPM, Holley 650 double pumpre (standard jets)
15/8" long tubes
MSD ignition

On a fat tune I got 292 HP and 312 torque, with a good tune it should break 300 HP

Again this is a pretty mild combo.

Re: building a 306

If you are building the shortblock yourself, I used a engine rebuild kit from Summit with Speed Pro forged pistons. Very affordable at just over $400.

I had ported stock intake and heads, so I wasn't making the power that some others on this board are.

My old shortblock is now in a car that uses TFS Twisted Wedge heads, GT40 Intake, E303 cam, and made 300rwhp/327rwtq. It now makes 435/445 with 9psi of Procharger.

Re: building a 306

werd a 306 is conservative as far as the strokers go.. but it'll defintly hold its own.. lee's runnin a 306 on his cobra.. made like 502 on nitrous..i forgot what it made on the procharger.... but like any combo.. its all the gear thats supporting it that determines the power and longevity of the setup- heads, intake, cam.. but more importantly.. forged rotating assembly: crank, pistons.. tough gear to take all that extra abuse..

give ya some for instances; Blake at Walker Dyno has a built 306 in his '85 racecar.. with a bomb-proof bottom end from Bennet Racing (Svo block) an his t-76 turbo.. made somthin like 780/902 at the wheels..friekin scary ..ran like low 11's las year, goin sideways down the track..

..talk to brad when he get his turboed 331 tho..

Jase, a 306 is only a .030 overbore, not a stroker. You won't gain any power by going to a 306. The same heads, cam, intake will make the same power on a fresh standard bore 302.

Re: building a 306

I am running a stock rebuild 306 in my Lincoln. I haev TFS TW heads (ported TEA), TEA ported Cobra lower, stock Cobra upper, 284/288 blower cam (it was fre and laying around), 24# inj. 75mm MAF, stock TB, long tubes.

It made 314rwhp 341rwtq on motor. made 449hp, 560tq on small nitrous shot. Also got 25.2 mpg on a trip to Miami and back. ran 12.6@108 on motor.

as for "How much power?" Brent on Turbomustangs put down 1100hp TO THE WHEELS with a 306 and a single turbo through a carb.

Re: building a 306

mine is a 306

Parts are..
Ross forged pistons
Speed Pro file fit rings
Eagle H-beam rods
AFR 165 heads
AFM B-31 cam
Procharger D-1 w/ 3core intercooler
